South Texas Deer Company was founded for the purpose of producing genetically superior whitetail deer. Our founders completed a substantial amount of research and consulted with wildlife biologists throughout the United States prior to purchasing a single animal for our whitetail breeding program. We developed our pen design and our Deer Pen Operating Procedures after touring and evaluating numerous successful deer breeders and their facilities throughout the United States. We vaccinate our herd regularly for certain bacterial and viral diseases that are common in our region. In addition, we test for parasites on a monthly basis and react accordingly.

South Texas Deer Company established three primary goals:

1. produce deer that have high quality antlers at an early age (early blooming genetics)
2. maintain a gray-colored "South Texas" appearance
3. insist on thorough record-keeping that requires DNA samples and pedigree charts ON EVERY SINGLE ANIMAL IN OUR HERD.

To insure that our "pedigree" goal was met, we only purchased deer with a valid genetically superior and verifiable pedigree. In addition, we DNA tested at random a large portion of the bucks and doe we purchased to verify pedigrees. We strongly encourage all breeders to have their deer herd DNA tested for parentage verification. Our second goal is to strive for a complete gray colored "South Texas" appearance. We will not breed any orange or red-bodied deer because of personal preference, regardless of antler quality.

To help us achieve our "early blooming genetics" goal, we purchased the finest, most proven bucks and doe available. ALL OF OUR BREEDER BUCKS WERE OVER 170 B&C AT 2 YEARS OLD. This early blooming quality in our breeder bucks, matched with our proven doe, has helped produced one of the most genetically superior whitetail deer bloodlines in Texas.

Each year we will have a limited number of fawns, bucks, and doe for sale. All of our doe fawns are bottle-raised.
