Trophy Ridge Ranch, just west of Saint Jo is located in North Central Texas in the Red River Breaks part of Montague Co. about 1 ½ hours north of DFW. The south gate is 1.3 miles west of the intersection of Hwy 59 (20 miles north of Bowie) and Hwy 82 (about 20 miles west of Gainesville. While we operate a hunting resort in the fall with an emphasis on family hunts, our primary passion is our whitetail breeding farm. We specialize in calm does managed for reproductive success through artificial insemination. In this program, we only use top genetics in the country and have developed a reputation for quality deer at a reasonable price.

Having been a professional wildlife management consultant for more than 30 years, we finally decided to practice what we had been preaching. In 2003 we high fenced about 800 acres of our Saint Jo ranch and designed a state of the art A.I. facility and breeding pens. Initially we bought does from many of the top breeders in Texas and inseminated them with semen from superior bucks with proven “pass-down” genetics. Our primary selection criterion has been trophy quality antlers at an early age (minimum 220” by age 3); many have exceeded this by age 2. Our final product then is a trophy buck that can be released at age 3, and make a significant genetic contribution to our managed pasture deer herd.

At Trophy Ridge Whitetails, we maintain a herd of about 80 breeding does as the heart of our farm. Our does are very calm (many we have bottle-raised) and are well used to our handling facilities. Everything we do is designed to minimize stress in their environment and our reproductive conception rates are indicative of a successful approach. For the most part, we maintain does that are 50% northern, 50% Texas bloodlines. Texas lines came originally from R. Williams, B. Martindale, R. Boren, C. McSpadden, J. Raney, R. Urbanczyk, L. Hicks, J. Seaman, T. Malouf, B. Jordan, L. Laning, and D. Wheeler to name a few. Our northern crosses have come from Avalanche, Scout, Rolex, Maxbo, Rocket, Soaring Eagle, Screaming Eagle, Ace, Blue Mt. Bill, Crab King, Palmer, Silver Hawk, Cyclone, T-Bone, Crazy Horse, Undertaker, Marlin, Weatherby, Royal Flush, Redoy Roller, Flip, Tundra, Twin Towers, Buckeye, VW, Forrest, Big Pete, Ruger, Blue 19, Sabot, Thunderhead, and JPB to name some in the past 3 years of our program. Crosses among some of these lines will be on the ground this summer and we’ll see how effective our choices have been in a couple of years

While we have produced several very promising bucks, none so far have broken our breeding selection criterion of 200+” by 3 years of age so we have been content to use semen from bucks matching that level. Most of our bucks are released for our hunting operation and that has been our business plan from the start. We do offer open and A.I. bred does for sale each year to maintain our doe herd size about constant, so give us a call if you are interested. We also have a “Rent-A-Womb” program whereby we will lease A.I. ready does for breeding with semen of your choice. The doe-raised fawns are then available the following October; we will bottle feed these fawns for you for an additional fee if you desire. Call or come by for a visit to Trophy Ridge Whitetails; we’ve always got some coffee, tea or a beer for deer folks.
